Standard Phrases In Business Letters 2

In This Issue We'll Provide You With A List Of Useful Phrases That Are Often Found In Business Letters. We'll Also Look At Some Sample Business Letters And See How These Phrases Are Used In Context.

By Using Standard Phrases, you Can Give A More Professional Tone To The Business Letters You Write In English.

Each Of These Phrases Either Has A Particular Function, suchAs Apologizing Or Referring, or Is Used To Introduce A Function, such AsExpressing Dissatisfaction And Complaining.

For Each Function, there May Be A Number Of Alternative But Similar Phrases To Choose From. Try Not To Use The Same Phrases More Than Once Within The Same Letter. For Example, if You Have To Make Two Different Requests In A Letter, rather Than Use 'Would You. . . ' And 'Would You Also. . . ' , you Could Vary Your Writing By Using 'We Would Also Be Grateful If You Could. . . ' For The Second Of The Requests.

You Should Try To Memorise At Least One Standard Phrase For Each Of The Functions Listed. If You Are Not Sure Whether The Phrase You Are Using Is Accurate, use The Table On The Right As Reference. Accuracy Of Use Is Very Important As Any Errors Will Cancel The Professional Touch That You Are Trying To Give Your Letter.
